Assuming you have read through the first 3 Tutorials - you will understand at this point that some of the websites in your lists you have mined do not allow
PR score through backlinks. These are the sites you will still be able to use for relevant traffic - even if they do not allow for PR score to your site.
Traffic is one of the factors in a popular website that ranks high in search engines. Not only is traffic important but you also want to see how long you can
keep visitors on your site and as many pages as you can persuade them to look at.
Thats known as Time on Site - and - Page Views
Placing links on these types of sites you will use similar rules as Bakclinks for PR - except that getting anchor text is not as important.
On these sites you will not have to spend as much time in placing links - you will still want to avoid spam behavior. The difference will be that you are not just leaving a link to get score - instead you are literally trying to get people to click your link this time to come to your site.
The Tactics for Mass Traffic
One of the most popular ways to drive traffic to your site is by looking at the news stories everyday getting the top news, less popular news, even the news of the odd things. Then make pages on your site that cover a few paragraphs (in your own wprds) about the news story and the details. you will then goto high traffic , very active forums and post in main threads to start new discussions like this:
Example: _________________________________
Thread Topic:
Paris Hilton makes video response to McCain commercial
Subject Body:
Everyone is talking about Paris Hilton's new video response to John McCain's campaign commercial... Read More
_________________________________
You see where it says "Read More" That is the most important piece of that post.
That will be a link to your site page where you will complete the story - show the embeded video file etc.
By doing this you can imagine how much traffic you can drive to your site every day.
You may be saying that it's not 'qualified' traffic because it isn't necessarily people looking for what you might be selling - that's true because for this tactic you are only trying to drive a steady stream of mass traffic. Once people are on your page - you can use another tactic that all news sites do - which is to break your news story into multiple pages. That way the reader has to click to a second page to read the second half of the story. From there you can refer them to links to other stories WHILE having your business ads on the side showing your products and trying to get them to click on them.
When you've had enough practice at this tactic you will be able to drive traffic - get a decent amount of time spent on your site per visitor - and you will have multiple page views per visitor.
Another way to drive traffic
YouTube - More than 70% of all Internet traffic are now watching videos on YouTube.
Post videos - the more videos you post - the better.
In the video Information text box where they allow you to give a description for your video - create a link to your site. YouTube blocks all PR score with
rel="nofollow" but it still creates the link for traffic. Dont forget to also include a title screen or closing screen on your video that shows the URL to your website. Videos have become a powerful new Internet marketing tool. Remember to include those two tactics on YouTube and you can expect a growing stream of traffic over a build period of 5 months - after 5 months traffic will begin to flow from YouTube.
Here's a video that an anonymous fan of EzPrintSolutions made - that demonstrates this tactic:
The gradual linear increase in traffic from your videos
over a 5 month period
Notice the spikes early on when blog and forum posts were made referring to the video. The nice thing about videos is that once they begin to get traffic it builds a momentum that continues to increase week after week.
Qualified Traffic
Bringing traffic to your site that is specifically on topic with your site - people looking to buy what you sell - or that want to read about your
sites topics is a more focused tactic. You will need to place links and create pages on your site that will be more specific to the topic of your site.
You will obviously need to use a more focused approach in getting people to click the links. This will by default draw less traffic than the broader mass traffic tactics - but - it will draw a specific audience. This tatcic is more for generating sales - new members at your site - and potential customers. Not so much for generating high Alexa traffic rankings.
Remember to understand the different types of traffic generating and the purpose for both.
You probably already know more about your sites topic, products, or services - so when using your list of sites that you have mined you will need to read through these sites/forums/blogs and see what people are looking for - what they need - or what could be very useful to them (regarding your topic) Your job is to become an authority on your topic - to organize mass data into easy to use lists etc. Then post it to forums and leave the link.
If we use the example computer company again as we did earlier - When posting links you will want to once again avoid spamming. Don't make posts like this: "Hey people! we just got a whole new shipment of computers and we're selling them 25% off - check it out!"
Those may get a few clicks BUT - they'll probably get erased off the sites by the webmasters before anybody has a chance to see them. Instead of trying to sell your computers - try to give free and useful information about computers. Maybe even a list of shortcut keyboard commands, or a simple way to protect their computer from hackers, or a way to speed up their computer by changing virtual memory settings.
You will need to think about what people in your industry / market or 'niche' need - the better you get at this with practice - the more traffic you will get to your site. Once you bring people to your site you can ask them to join your RSS newsfeed or mailing lists etc. so that you can keep some form of contact with them. If you don't think you have enough ideas to keep an interesting RSS or email newsletter going - then its better to not attempt it as you might bore people with less than interesting news and they could cancel subscription and have a negative memory of your site. An idea though: if you know of another topic that IS fairly exciting to people - perhaps you also play golf and consider yourself an expert? Start a free email newsletter about tips on golfing - with links to videos and everything you can think of. Then when you have a large email newsletter list - sneak in your ads over on the side of the email. This is acceptable since most people expect to see some form of ads in newsletters. Just dont make it excessive or ridiculous.
